Welcome!

Dia De Los Muertos Scavenger Hunt 2025

Test your trivia knowledge of those born on November 2nd, those who died on November 2nd, and/or events that occurred on November 2nd.

Rules

This game is based on the honor system… no cheating! If it feels like cheating, then it probably is. I may not notice the cheating as it is happening, but by the end of the game I will figure it out and cheaters will be tarred and feathered.

You will have up to one hour to play the game, inclusive of listening to the instructions. After four players have handed in their game map, you will receive a text to tell you it is the final call to turn in your map within five minutes. After five minutes, the game is over.

Players Needed

7 Character Players

2 Secret Keeper Players

1 Host

Each Secret Keeper Player will receive all of the clues needed to answer the game, one page of visual clues, and one page of QR code clues. Secret Keeper Players can move about the yard as they please. They can stay in one spot or be constantly on the move. There are only two areas where the Secret Keeper Players cannot stay: they cannot be within 30 feet of the well, nor within 30 feet of the deck on the side of the house. If you are a Secret Keeper Player you may walk by these places, but do not linger! Throughout the game, Character Players will come to you to buy clues. Each visual clue will cost 1 ticket, and each QR code clue will cost 2 tickets. Character Players may only buy 2 clues at a time before visiting an equilizing station. There are two equalizing stations: the well and the deck. Character players MUST touch an equalizing station before purchasing more clues from a Secret Keeper Player.

Each Character Player will receive 1 world map, 30 tickets, and 5 question tickets. In addition, each player will receive a photo of the clue map, in digital form, via text. Players will select their chosen identifying label to be worn on their back. Players may not scan their own label. When the game begins, players will move about the yard on a solo mission to find the clues. After 10 minutes (notified by text), players may choose to form teams, alliances, or continue to work solo.

There are 7 clue tags that pertain to the mystery characters in the game, and 8 clue tags (labeled EVENT) that pertain to the events in the game. These tags are numbered in the corner and correspond to the numbers on your map (sent via text). Event clues are labeled “E #” (with their corresponding number) on the clue map. DO NOT remove these tags. You may stay at the tag until you solve it, revisit the tag throughout the game, take a photo of the tag to remember the clue, or make notes on the back of your world map board. Tags labeled EVENT need to be solved, tags not labeled EVENT are the first clue to that mystery character. Character Players can now purchase clues to solve the mystery characters from the Secret Keeper Players, or purchase clues to solve the EVENT tags from the Host. Host will charge 1 ticket per event clue. Players may solve their clues in any order, but solving the event clues correctly will reward you with additional tickets to purchase more clues. Don’t forget, Character Players may only buy 2 clues at a time before visiting an equilizing station. There are two equalizing stations: the well and the deck. Character players MUST touch an equalizing station before purchasing more clues from a Secret Keeper Player or the Host.

Event Clues

Record these answers on the timeline near the bottom of your world map. Each vertical line needs an answer, including the event and the year it occurred. Once you have completed the timeline, bring your map to the host to see if you will receive additional tickets. Your timeline must be 100% correct. While Event clues are marked on the world map, you do not need to record them there.

Mystery Character Clues

Mystery character clues can be purchased from the Secret Keepers or the Host. Secret Keepers will have two sets of clues. The visual clues cost 1 ticket, the QR code clues cost 2 tickets. The Host will have an additional set of QR code clues, but these will cost 3 tickets. Oftentimes, the more expensive clue will be a more worthy hint, though you may be able to solve the clue without it. When purchasing a clue, take a picture, make some notes on the back of your map, or just view the clue and remember it, but know that you cannot view the clue again without paying again. Once you think you have the correct answer for a mystery player, write down their name in the corresponding spot on the world map. Spaces are labeled with the corresponding number and are located at the mystery player's birthplace. Once you have completed the world map section of your board and the event timeline, feel free to turn your map in to the Host…. But wait!!! Maybe you would like a little extra credit.

Extra Credit

The line of squares at the bottom of your world map game board can bring you an additional boost in the game. When viewing clue tags throughout the yard, you may notice some of them have a handwritten word on the back. Make note of these words on the back of your game board. If you have time, scramble the words in the correct sequence to reveal the dying words of one of the mystery players.

Tickets
You will NOT receive enough tickets to view every clue. Decide how you would like to spend your tickets. You may barter with other players, form alliances, or sabotage (gently). Sabotage can include false information, misleading, etc. Sabotage can not include physical contact or stealing game material. Question tickets can be redeemed with the Host for help with game play or additional verbal clues. You may ask one question per ticket. Host can give hints, confirm or deny, but not give you a direct answer to the game.

Bonus Cards
There are 4 bonus cards. 3 cards will be hanging around the yard and look similar to the clue tags. If you come across one, confirm it starts with “YOU” and pull it from its hiding spot. You may rip them if you’re in a hurry. The 1 remaining Bonus Card is considered the Ultimate Bonus and is hidden very well. At the beginning of the game, the Host will show you the first clue to its location. 10 minutes in, the Host will be available by the fire pit to show you the second clue to its location, if still available. 30 minutes in, the Host will be available by the fire pit to show you the third clue to its location, if still available. You will receive a 1-minute warning to meet at the fire pit for the 2nd and 3rd clue, via text.

Phone Use

You may use your phone camera (but not screenshot mode), the timer, and text messages to the Host (no other players). You may not use your calculator. You may not look up any information. You may not jump ahead if you figure out the QR code posting pattern (this would be cheating).

*If you are the winner of a bonus card, please check in with the Host to use your screen time. Do not use it without the Host as it will be timed.
